I am an actor, singer, writer & doer. I hail from the Great White North and currently live in Brooklyn.
I appeared in Cold Comes The Night opposite Bryan Cranston as red-eyed, gun-toting Jacques. I was Ollie in Rattlestick's New Country at The Cherry Lane Theatre and was Matt of the Mint and sang 'The Ballad of Mack the Knife' in Marvell Rep's Drama Desk Award-nominated The Threepenny Opera. Volkswagen hired me to sell cars to the tune of Rush (pre-emissions scandal) & I had a role in Jason Ritter's short-lived sit-com Us & Them. It never aired but at least I got to bust out my inner snob and discuss cured meats. Other roles I really dig include Garrett in Etienne Kallos' Doorman which screened at Sundance & Cannes; Brad in The Rocky Horror Show and Alferd Packer in Trey Parker's Cannibal! The Musical. I recently fulfilled the long-time dream of playing Rooster in Annie at the state theatre of North Carolina at the Flat Rock Playhouse where I also played an Alice Cooper / Ozzy Osbourne-inspired Potiphar in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
As far as current projects go, my writing partner Meghan Hemingway and I are working on a five-season television series concept called Salmon Elbow (we love it). Our other episodic concepts are Writing Wrong, The Joint, Working Title, Birth Control and Archipelago. We've got a bunch of irons in the fire, too, of course. Gotta buy those lottery tickets! As a solo writer, I recently wrote a full-length play called Private Property. More about these projects can be found here.
I perform improv in the Dirty Little Secrets Improv Show, came up through The Annoyance NYC before it shuttered and study voice with the incomparable David McCarthy. (highly recommended!) I do my best to eat foods that haven't been run through USA's morally and environmentally questionable industrial food system.
I love the great outdoors and to retreat into the forest for decently long stretches of time. I recently completed the John Muir Trail - 220 miles through the Sierra Nevadas and I paddled a kayak from the Adirondacks in New York to Fort Kent, Maine at the New Brunswick border. On my list of future adventures is paddling from Alaska to Vancouver and completing all of New Zealand's 'Great Walks.'
My Mum stuck me in church choir when I refused to simply sit and listen. From there, I got into opera and appeared as the First Spirit in Mozart's Magic Flute, Amahl in Menotti's Amahl & The Night Visitors (for two years in a row) and as a streetboy in Bizet's Carmen.
I've decided not to dye my rapidly multiplying gray hairs and am going to keep it long (for now).
